Your best bet if you want to fly helicopters for the Army is to go to Warrant Officer Candidate School. I can talk to you about what it takes to get in. The age cutoff is 29 but given that you're already a commercial pilot you may be able to get a waiver. You'd certainly stand a better shot than most at the waiver piece. Getting a rotary wing slot through the guard will work in some places depending ont he type helicopter you want to fly but I believe HI only has Chinooks. You'd have to go to somewhere like TX or NC for Apaches and Miss for Kiowas. Again, that's run by the state so state politics would apply over the Army warrant route.
If you're interested in the Active Duty route I can put you in touch with someone who can answer your detailed questions on it. If you just wanna BS over a beer I'm around.
I'm leaving for town today around noon for the Kokua Fest (SAT night) and staying in Waikiki FRI and SAT night and flying to the mainland for 5 weeks on Sunday afternoon for a school in FLA. My cell number is 497-8733. If I'm not at Kokua or in the surf it'll be on.
Blue skies...Paul
