I finally got my own gear. Parachute systems (South African manufacturer) XP.EXE 285 main, decelerator 250 reserve in a VectorII container. This gear came from Peter H. who is a paraplegic learned to skydive with the help of Tonto -one of the most...

AFF or NOT? "Up here, above the fog, in the lonely dark emptiness, there is no Life and Death. There is infinity and a moment in between, when we fly so full of life and so close to death, that they become one." -Richard Bach

This weekend, to put it bluntly
-went TERRIBLE.

Angus and I tried that dive again (the one where I flipped around, with him flying head down trying to catch me so he could pull my parachute) on Sat.
-same results.
we modified things even. Tried to add leg braces, we lifted up the opening altitude from 5,500f up to 6,000f.
Same results except Angus held on to me, trying to stop me from flipping over, and I struggled with every muscle i could find to remain belly down-stable to pull. I ble… Continue

AFF#2 Went like this....oops back to belly flips happen FAST!

part 2 went like this

AFF#2 was decided to do out with one AFF instructor,
and camera man (who was qualified to help to become the 2nd AFF if needed).

1) we had a bad day for weather, the day before I spent 5 hrs in the rain, under tarps, still getting wet trying to put up a tent to live in,
to follow DZ RULES re limited space etc. etc.

anyways that failed with the winds gusting me and tent and tarps away and off to lala land.
5 1/2 hrs of work drenched, was NOT GOOD CHOICE the day pri… Continue

the "final leg" of this project ... my first AFF dive

went as follows:

1) Angus wrote an "adaptive free fall program" for me to follow.
Basically a 'modified' AFF skydiving instructional manual.

2) Dave and Angus checked and re-checked the rigging (of my pants) and continually are developing further modifications to the leg stability and landing safety issues (i.e. building some sort of a 'skid pad' on the butt of the "gimp freefly" pants for added safety for the critical tailbone area)

3) Skyventure NH donated a tremendous amount of support fro… Continue

I left my wheelchair at the DZ & went skydiving

I'll post updates on the progression of one gimp who left her wheelchair at the dropzone and went sky diving.

Hopefully these videos and blogs will show methods by which we will work towards me being able to dive alone (despite how much I love my strap on instructor I'm not planning on hauling his ass around the blue skies for ever), and this documentation will inspire others to join me, leaving a trail of wheelchairs @ dropzones around the world while we enjoy freedom in the skies.

My "Gimp FF pants" and the skyflyers of history

Amidst the winters cold and winds,
I dream of the day my first solo flight in
uncharted territory, breaking new ground in ways.

During these winter months, while a rigger built the pants to help
keep my lifeless legs stationary during FF, I've spent time gathering equipment,
from the knee braces which will lock my knees at optimum FF angle
(to be determined at the wind tunnel)
to helmet, altimeter and what ever else I thought I needed.

It is almost the dawn of something spectacular and… Continue

yup, just got back from a soggy week in a wet tent, (and left -by accident ALL my stuff there! mold heaven waiting if I don't get my butt down there to get it to wash it all!).

Anyways.... yah I did a bit of tandems (propably about 10 or so... ) but now am doing static line.
Its working great to date.

actually got back from the DZ about 6 hrs ago...

but it looks like I have to get my butt up there to get the stuff, wash it all
so might as well stay at the DZ for a while.. n jump off that leash again...

i got plans for some good jump later on ...
one alone and another one with Angus..
with him it will be head down tandem.. we just need to find a vidiot who can keep up with 300 lbs head down!

I'm going to the DZ, 2nd time since that failure day.

did two tandems last weekend, focussing on 360's in FF, and canopy control, a bit of agressive turns high altitude.

Nice landings both times.

This weekend, it's supposed to be hot, muggy and sunny tomorrow (although looking at the fog/rain out there it's difficult to see it, 24 hrs from now and 4hrs South).

I've talked to my coach, about my thoughts.
He has replied by, he is thinking about my words, and thinking of how to reply.

i only think it is basic honesty necessary of me to tell him,
so he knows and has the option to say 'no -i'm not going to be the one teaching you those canopy skills if your going to ever BASE'.

he's thinking of it all,
while we dive this weekend, providing these slots in the plane for me and the weather cooperates.

i'll be doing the same, working on 360's and accuracy for landing.

this is pretty tough...

Ok, you made me cry. That was awesome Minna! I can't believe how stable you were. Ok, some backsliding, but you already know that and I suspect a solution is already being worked on. I agree with your comment about the pilot chute too. Your face when you landed will stay with me forever. You should be so proud of yourself!!!! BTW, was that your daughter in the peas with you? She's beautiful! YOU GO GIRL! Nothing is impossible! You are living proof of that! =^^=

WOW! YOU DID IT!!!!! Did I mention, you are AWESOME? Sounds like it was almost perfect. I know you'll fix the backsliding issue on the next jump. I look forward to more when your 'puter gets fixed. More blue skies your way... =^^=

Thanks EVERYONE for your supportive words! and offers to talk on the phone.

I was able to do it! I did my first AFF on Sat. April 26th.
Photos and video will take a while to organize, since my laptop crashed Sun night..... :(
BUT I jumped from 11,000f had stability ...a bit of backsliding though due to my lazy-legs (or was that gimp-legs lol) so I need to learn to compensate a bit more with my arms/hands.
I landed IN THE BOWL (under radio ofcourse) .. It fel't good to be told by a DZ owner who was on the radio tell me that of decades of first AFF student's on radio I responded to everything he said, and landed in the bowl about 10 feet from him.

got to go, public computer costs $$... CYA!
