What was special to me about my cut-away was the prep beforehand: studied the SIM the night before on the exact scenerio I ended up going thru. Then, went over emergency procedures that morning w/ our TOP instructor, Tom Riddick (who I trust w/ my life)! His parting words to me as we walked out of the classroom were: "Never give up, and may the last words you hear be MINE!" Jump #1 that day was on my Sabre I 170. I used a demo Spectre 170 on jump #2. Since I was part of a group for the Bridge-The-Gap event I was rushed to pack. I had stuff to take care of and my instructor offered to finish closing for me. Well...the pilot chute didn't get packed properly for my particular BOC set up (which I've since had altered), and I had a hard pull initiated at 4500. I'm grateful that I was pulling high that day~Needless to say, after several tugs and following the SIM directions, my decision was an easy one: PULL THE FRIGGIN RESERVE!!! I opened up w/ a minor linetwist, let the cable go, (don't even remember having it in my hand really) and made my way to earth. My crash landing was minor and I stood up jumping and screaming w/ sheer JOY! I was soooo stoked to have kept my head together and save my own life. I thank GOD I got to go home and see my kids that night~:) I think God actually set the whole thing up for me. Who knows? He's my best friend even though I've sprained an ankle and broken my back on a hard opening. Little reminders that I'm not invincible, I guess! :) Thanks for sharing your story my fellow Reserve Riders Club member~

He's a member too~Spent the day out at Elsinore w/ me and got to see his first cut-away. Guess a breakline snapped on a rental on the guy's 80th. There's always that first time, alright.
