The Leap for LUPUS Foundation is gearing up and registering people NOW for this years POPS Record attempt. Our goal is to raise as much funds as possible to help benefit medical research in hopes of finding a cure for LUPUS. We are the first and only, ALL Volunteer, SKYDIVER RUN AND OWNED 501c charity foundation! We use our sport for it's sensationalism in hopes of drawing large crowds and media attention to help us promote our sport in a positive light and raise funds to end a devastating disease.

I would love to help in any way possible. I lost my younger brother, at 35 years of age, two years ago to Lupus. Being Lupus is not found often in men, they kept over-looking his diagnosis.

So sorry for your loss. I can't even imagine how hard that must have been.
Please join our group, Leap for LUPUS. Tell your story there. Help us get the word out. We are also asking folks to get their local DZ's added to our list of Supportive DZ's.
This is what we want, and how we help the DZ's back.

First, we have a coupon to download that says anyone that makes a tandem jump at 'participating DZ's' if they go with our coupoon, downloaded from www.leapforlupus.org, 10% will go to the Leap for Lupus foundation.

We are also adding a sheet that will say... "skydive for free" If a participant gathers $500 worth in pledged funds, we will arrange at a DZ near them to 'jump for free' We need DZ's to back us on this and give us a discount so we can maximize the funds raised. Leap for LUPUS makes sure they get paid prior to any 'free tantems'.

We will advertize for participating DZ's on T shirts, our website etc. Win win here for sure.
We are all volunteers at Leap for LUPUS and all Skydivers.
Valinda, is our president. She is the reason we got started in this, we almost lost her to LUPUS in 2004.

Any talents you have, idea, friends, family who want to donate... everything and all are welcomed.
If you are forty or over, come join the Leap for LUPUS here in Washington if you can. August 8-10 at Skydive Kapowsin.
We are currently working on getting a free flyer/big name hopfully, for those who are not 40+ for some cool VFW work as well. There will be something for EVERYONE and the Boogie will be fun, NO MATTER WHAT:-)

Permalink Reply by Cynthia Kersey on April 25, 2008 at 9:28pm: Our DZ is really small, so I am not sure how much they can participate. I live in IA, however, my son (who also skydives) lives in UT. I will probably be in UT, during this time, so we were planning on driving up to WA for the event.

Sorry, I have a couple of years yet until I hit the BIG 40!!! Maybe in a few years.

We are going to have a helicopter and other fun crafts to jump and I'm working on something fun for all the freeflyers in the area. Would love to meet you in person!! yeah!! I'm excited you'll be coming!! Look for me and Billy. I'll be the one running around like a chicken with her head cut off. lol

The Freefly portion is all Meili and you don't have to be over 40. The Freefly portion is EVERYONE that wants coaching and based on experience levels and qualifing individuals will determine if there will be a record. Hope that helps! See you there! Cause: The Leap for Lupus Foundation is the only charity run, owned and operated by an all volunteer staff of skydivers. We donate 100% of every dollar earned to the UW Rheumatology Department for medical research in hopes of finding a cure for LUPUS. We had our first event in 2005 and became our own charity in 2007 to ensure 100% of every dime raised goes to medical research.
We use our talent, time and own money to run this event and rely on donations, contributions and volunteers to make it a bigger success each year!
